A recent episode of Hawaii Five-O featured not only the usual crime-solving, but also what may have been the world’s best first date.

When thinking about first dates, I usually think simply. Maybe a dinner and a movie, but I guess when you live in Hawaii, there are many more options than just the “dinner and movie” route. On the latest episode of “Hawaii Five-0,” Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) decides it’s best to move on after the departure of Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth).

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, “Hawaii Five-0” centers around a special state task force that investigates and solves hard crimes, such as terrorism and kidnapping. The team consists of: Steven “Steve” McGarrett, Daniel “Danny” Williams (Scott Caan), Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim), Kona “Kono” Kalakaua (Grace Park) and Lou Grover (Chi McBride).

When it comes to the Five-0 task force, every crime is taken seriously. It’s like every case pertains to their personal lives in some shape or form. This is one of my favorite crime shows on television along with a few others (Cough, cough… “Chicago P.D.,” “Law and Order: SVU”).

In this episode, McGarrett is trying to move on after Catherine leaves Hawaii for a military assignment, most likely for good this time. With some help from a friend, McGarrett is set up on a date with Lynn Downey (Sarah Carter), a friend of a friend.

For their first date, Steve and Lynn go snorkeling—an awesome idea if you live in Hawaii. After, they go for walk on a secluded island nearby. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think this has to be the best first date in the history of first dates.

As usual, trouble finds them as they are trying to find their way back to their boat. Unbeknownst to Steve and Lynn, a criminal that was supposed to be dead is running loose on the island. The date was going great until they had a psycho criminal shooting at them, and they had to fight to survive. Wonderful, isn’t it?

I wonder if all dates with law enforcement can turn out the way that Steve and Lynn’s date turned out. Is it possible to have a normal date with a police officer or a detective? I have discussed this earlier in past columns, but how feasible is the relationship?

It is definitely hard to find someone that can handle themselves in situations of pressure. Respect also goes a long way as well. McGarrett did everything in his power to keep Lynn safe, even though they had just met each other.

Of course, McGarrett gets the best of the criminal because of his ex-military background and is able to apprehend the criminal and his partner with the help of Lynn. Upon returning to the mainland of Hawaii, the criminal duo is arrested and charged for their crimes in addition to these new charges.

All in a day’s work, right? Surprisingly, Lynn was not disappointed with the date. She actually thought it was a great first date. McGarrett asks Lynn on a second date. If I were her, I would definitely ask for a simple date for a second date. But then again, who wouldn’t want an exciting first date like that?
