Fire damages Main Street apartments above Jimmy John's

A fire burned out an apartment building early Friday morning on Main Street above Jimmy John’s sandwich shop. Fire crews responded quickly, bringing the blaze under control less than an hour after it was reported at 4:10 a.m.

According to the Newark Post, 45 firefighters arrived on the scene, many from the nearby Academy Street firehouse, as well as the Ogletown Road firehouse.

Fire department spokesman John Farrell said all occupants evacuated and there were no injuries reported, though the apartments will have to be gutted and rebuilt.

There was no damage to Jimmy John’s, apart from mild water damage according to the Newark Post. The cause of the blaze is still undetermined.
